I don’t often blog other than to post a few picture, but a few events over the last couple of days got me thinking about something that we as photographers often deal with .  If you don’t have the time … Continue reading

World of Wheels – Chicago

We spent Saturday at the World of Wheels show in Chicago.  It was dominated by cars – lots of great looking cars – but there were a few motorcycles there also.  We were there to connect with some bike builders and managed to shoot a few pictures of the cars.  These types of shows are usually not conducive to taking good shots due to all the people in the background.  But I did manage to take a couple with few distractions.

Hot Bike Bagger/Urban Bagger Shoot

Last weekend, we shot 2 bikes from DD Custom Cycle that will be featured in Hot Bike Bagger and the cover of the new bagger magazine Urban Bagger.  Urban bagger will be featuring Dave’s blue Road Glide on the cover.  This new bagger magazine is published by the same people who do American Cycle and American Bagger magazines and is aimed toward a very specific audience.  Hot Bike Bagger will be featuring the gray bagger in an upcoming issue.

Magazine Shoot – Big Tony’s Chopp Shop

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

We had a busy weekend as we finished a shoot on one bike, and shot 2 more for upcoming issues of various magazines.  The last shoot was at Big Tony’s Chopp Shop.  We took an entire studio for this shoot as Big Tony wanted a studio shoot for this bike before he delivers it to a customer in Florida.  These kinds of shoots are always challenging since it requires lots of equipment (lights, stands, booms etc.) and lots of time – usually about 8 hours to set up, shoot, and tear down.  We got some great shots.  After we set up, Deb set up our recently acquired video camera (a Panasonic AF-100) and shot the entire shoot.  Eventually, we’ll make a fusion DVD of the shoot for promo purposes.

April Hot Bike . . .

The April issue of Hot Bike features a photo shoot we did for a bike resurrected by Big Tony’s Chopp Shop.  I saw this bike at Big Tony’s place before he worked on it and I thought he’d brought it in to salvage parts from it.  As it turns out, he did a complete makeover on the bike so that it barely looks like a Sporty.  Check out the April issue.

Some Editing for Ad

I took one of the images from the Friday magazine shoot and did some preliminary editing for a possible magazine ad for Dave of DD Custom Cycle.  A little color correction and other enhancements gave me the following picture.  A little more to do . . .

Magazine Shoot / DD Custom Cycle

I went down to McCormick Place in Chicago yesterday to meet up with Dave Dupor of DD Custom Cycle to do a shoot for a new bike he just finished.  The bike is headed for an upcoming magazine.  I found an empty room (more like a warehouse) just behind where everyone was setting up for the bike show this weekend.  By the time I got set up and got the bike, I had about 45 minutes to do a complete shoot before they were closing the place down.  I managed to get a few shots, but not quite what I was looking for in terms of detail shots and a few other things.  The first shot is a good example of how existing lights can put a color cast on things.  I managed to get that under control but had some other issues as well.  For the most part the shots turned out good but I just didn’t have enough time to finish up.  Beautiful bike with some interesting features.  Check back to see when the bike will be featured and for some additional shots.
